Always-on safety to help protect you on the road

Safety is deeply embedded in every Lyft experience. From start to finish, our protective safety measures are always working behind the scenes so you can ride and drive with confidence.

Safety that starts before you get in

Every driver completes verification, background checks, and mandatory safety education before driving with Lyft. We also work to verify rider profiles, so drivers can trust who they’re sharing the ride with, too.

Real-time ride tracking

We monitor rides for unusual activity, like long stops or route deviations. If we notice anything off about your ride, we’ll contact you to see if you need help with Smart Trip Check-In.

Real help from real humans

We’re here for you — our specialized safety team is available via phone or chat 24/7. Additionally, you can reach ADT emergency professionals through the app for live support.* They can alert authorities and share important details like your location and vehicle info.

Your privacy is protected

You can also contact your rider or driver anytime through chat or phone in the app — with your privacy protected. Your phone number stays anonymized and is never shared.

Customizable safety tools at your fingertips

Our easy-to-use safety toolkit puts you in control, giving you extra peace of mind on every ride or drive with just a few taps. You can set your preferences for night rides or all rides — it’s up to you.

Location Sharing

Add your trusted contacts to your safety settings — they’ll be able to track your ride and location in real time.

Audio Recording

Record audio in the Lyft app for added security. Start anytime or schedule ahead — recordings stay private unless you choose to share them with our Safety team.

Pin Verification*

Verify your rider or driver before the ride starts. When you opt into PIN Verification, riders will receive a PIN that drivers will enter to start the ride.

Upholding our Community Guidelines

Every year, we reaffirm our commitment to our Community Guidelines — a shared promise to treat one another with kindness and respect. Anyone who doesn’t take these guidelines — and Lyft’s Terms of Service — seriously may be permanently removed from the Lyft platform.

Your voice and feedback matters

If you rate your rider four stars or fewer and select ‘safety’ as a feedback reason, you won’t be matched with them again. Your feedback helps us take meaningful steps to keep our community safe and welcoming for everyone.
